Now isnt that an oxymoron???
We all need to go SLOW
and smell the roses
.and what better way then to take a
leisurely stroll down the many pathways wrapped around the bay, paddle your way
around a sun dappled harbour, a SLOW hike up to the top of the Mt. Finlayson
or just chillin on your own private balcony.
Park, Victoria, BC
words do I use to describe this magnificent park located just approx 17 kms from
downtown Victoria?? I cannot describe this place and really do it justice.
moved to the Island just eight months ago and we have spent nearly every other
weekend exploring the park. Just when we think we have seen it all, we discover
some hidden delight that keeps us coming back for more.
climbed to the top of Mt Finlayson and stood breathless at the view that was nearly
surreal, stood beneath the cool mist of Niagara Falls, (yes, there really are
two falls, so don't mistake this one for the falls in Niagara, Ontario) climbed
up to the railroad trestle for yet another spectacular view and stood in reverence
of some of the biggest trees I have ever seen!! Giant black cottonwoods, 600-year-old
Douglas Firs, red alder trees and Arbutus, the further up you climb. Goldstream
Park lies amid the splendour of an old-growth temperate rain forest. Moss decorates
every tree you see like tinsel. Awesome sight!!!
watched winter (if you can call it Winter
so warm!) turn to spring with new
life sprouting up all over the park. Skunk Cabbage with their unique scent that
I happen to like, new, tender ferns uncurling to the sun and wild flowers galore.
Last fall we watched the salmon
spawning in Goldstream and if you are lucky enough to be here in December through
to February, don't miss one of the largest concentrations of Bald Eagles anywhere
in Canada feasting on the spawned-out salmon!
is even an old abandoned gold mine, which we have yet to explore. I can't wait!!!!
to enjoy at your slow leisure!
